Title: The Quiescent Corona of VB 10
Abstract: We present results from a recent Chandra ACIS observation of
the
M8 dwarf star VB 10, a star near the hydrogen-burning mass
limit.
Until now, VB 10 has only been detected to flare at X-ray
wavelengths.
We can now report that non-flare, "quiescent," X-ray
emission has
been detected with a luminosity, Lx = 2.5E+25 ergs/s. This
is consistent
with previous non-detections of quiescent emission from VB
10.
We discuss the possible coronal heating mechanisms which
could
perate on such a low-mass star and the implications this
discovery
has for the topic of brown dwarf coronae.
